ITIN Application Assistance from an IRS Certified Acceptance Agent

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a nine-digit number issued by the IRS for federal tax purposes to individuals who need a U.S. taxpayer identification number but are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN).

What an ITIN is — and is not

An ITIN is for federal tax purposes only. It does not provide immigration status, does not authorize employment in the United States, is not a Social Security Number, and does not by itself provide eligibility for Social Security benefits.

Who Needs One

Who may need an ITIN?

  • Nonresident aliens with a U.S. federal tax filing obligation
  • Resident aliens who are not eligible for an SSN but have a federal filing requirement
  • Certain spouses or dependents of U.S. citizens or resident aliens
  • Individuals claiming certain tax-treaty benefits, where applicable
  • Individuals with another qualifying federal tax purpose
Owning an LLC does not automatically mean you need an ITIN

Whether an individual needs an ITIN depends on their own federal tax circumstances and purpose — not simply on forming or owning a U.S. LLC. See LLC vs EIN vs ITIN for the distinction.
